For their graduation the students submit?
A graduation film and a thesis.
How do you assess the effectiveness of your curriculum and the quality of your teaching (e.g. through questionnaires, evaluation forms, open discussion)?
Practical exercises: each practical exercise ends with a number of evaluations, i.e. a screening evaluation, a post-production evaluation, an end evaluation and a class evaluation.
Professional practice: the quality of the curriculum is evaluated in terms of professional practice in several ways such as discussions with members of the Advisory Commission of the NFTA, conferences with, for example, the Federation of Artists? Associations, and studies among employers about the extent to which the curriculum is in line with professional practice. The process, the end result, the teaching and the students are evaluated in this way.
Although the evaluations are primarily intended to test the student's performance, they also offer students the opportunity to express their views about the curriculum.
Screening evaluation
After the film has been screened, the screening process is evaluated. All the heads (students in the various classes), the (guest) lecturers and coaches and/or project coaches are present at this evaluation.
Post-production evaluation
The post-production process of the second, third and fourth year students is evaluated. A lecturer in editing, sound or production is in charge of these evaluations. They are attended by students that were involved in the sound, editing, direction, production and, in some cases, interactive multimedia / visual effects.
End evaluation
This takes place once all the projects have been completed. All crew members must attend these evaluations where the end result (the film as film) is discussed. A commission consisting of external persons (guests invited from professional practice, including directors, producers, editors and the like), a course leader and the chairman of the board of examiners.
Class evaluations
At the end of the academic year the students evaluate their own practical exercises.
Evaluation interviews
Besides the aforementioned evaluations, the course leader of each class conducts interviews with individual students. The results are recorded in the student dossier.
Systematic curriculum evaluations
Since 2003 the students conduct systematic curriculum evaluations. The students complete a standard questionnaire for each subject. The results are discussed with the lecturer, the course leader and the programme developer. The intention being that any points for improvement are incorporated in the curriculum wherever possible. Furthermore, the entire curriculum is evaluated and graduates are interviewed to find out how they experience the curriculum in relation to their work in practice.
