
Nieuwe media, die allang niet nieuw meer zijn, zijn een digitale smeltkroes. Zij vormen het terrein van de studierichting IMVFX, een terrein dat constant in beweging is, een gebied dat binnen de filmwereld voor nieuwe impulsen zorgt. De studierichting IMVFX beweegt zich binnen dynamische grenzen waar vernieuwing en experiment centraal staan.
The first year of the course is a general year for all students at the NFTA during which about a quarter of the course material is focused on the student's own specific discipline. During the third and fourth year, students can opt to specialise in Visual Effects or Interactive Media by choosing projects in these fields.

- Creativity and motivation
- Design and narrative abilities as expressed in their own work and the admission assignment
- Affinity with digital production processes in the field of interactive media and/or visual effects
- Potential ability to work creatively in a team
Key attributes of an IMVFX graduate
- Creative ability (story visualisation).
- Craftsmanship (mastery of digital production tools and processes).
- Ability to cooperate (team player)
These characteristics are taught by:
- Creative ability: mainly during the 2nd, 3rd and 4th year projects and in assignments carried out in the various teaching modules.
- Craftsmanship: during teaching modules, workshops and through instruction geared specifically to certain tools and processes such as the specialisation classes during the 1st year, 3D-1 and compositing II in the 2nd year and workshops on animation and authoring sound in the 3rd year.
There are ten guest lecturers and coaches a year.
Teaching methods
The most important methods are: the teaching module (a combination of lessons and independent work), workshops (similar to the teaching module, but lasting a limited period of time and with more intensive coaching) and project teaching (supervised school projects). There are also theoretical classes, practical instruction/hands-on labs and seminars.
- 2nd year: Realisation of interactive project, preparation of second-year fiction exercise (3 minutes), 3D-3: 3D in multimedia and coaching 3D VFX, Visual effects production second-year fiction exercise (5 minutes), Compositing IV: motion graphics and coaching compositing in VFX
- 3rd year: Commercial block, preparation of third-year productions (10 minutes), Realisation third-year productions.
- 4th year: Preparation of fourth-year production, Realisation of fourth-year productions (25 minutes), Organisation of final examination.
